Converting Nagadus Emerald
Two rules decide whether you have enough. Crafting only goes up: 3 of a tier make 1 of the next (3 Slivers into a Fragment, 3 Fragments into a Chunk, 3 Chunks into a Gemstone), and nothing breaks back down. Changing element stays in the same tier and costs 1 Dust of Azoth per gem. So a pile of Nagadus Emerald Gemstones cannot cover a shortage of Chunks, and a simple count of all your gems can say you are fine when you are not.
