Converting Shivada Jade
Two rules decide whether you have enough. Crafting only goes up: 3 of a tier make 1 of the next (3 Slivers into a Fragment, 3 Fragments into a Chunk, 3 Chunks into a Gemstone), and nothing breaks back down. Changing element stays in the same tier and costs 1 Dust of Azoth per gem. So a pile of Shivada Jade Gemstones cannot cover a shortage of Chunks, and a simple count of all your gems can say you are fine when you are not.

Can I convert other gems into Shivada Jade?
Yes, tier for tier: one gem of another element becomes one Shivada Jade of the same tier for 1 Dust of Azoth. You can also craft 3 of a tier into 1 of the next tier up, but never the other way, so a spare Shivada Jade Gemstone cannot become Chunks.
